"Projecting Off the Wall"
Call for Technical Demonstrations

In Conjunction with the 4th IEEE International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems (ProCams 2006)

Co-sponsored by ITP/Interactive Telecommunications Program, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University

Recently there has been an explosion of interest in systems that combine digital light projection with cameras and interaction. Projecting Off the Wall is a unique art and technical demo event that will bring together artists, scientists, and the public for a showing of projector-camera art installations and technical demos, and is sponsored by the Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems. Previous ProCams events have been held in Nice, France (2003) and San Diego (2005).

The ProCams workshop involves the world's leading researchers in projection and interactive display technologies. With Projecting Off the Wall, the conference organizers hope to foster connections between art and science.

We are specifically looking for technical demos that include both projectors and cameras research in any of the following or related areas:

  • - steerable and handheld projectors
  • - real-world texturing and annotation
  • - image warping for purposes of display shape compensation
  • - automatic self-calibration (geometric and radiometric) of projection systems
  • - shadow removal
  • - object or fiducial tracking
  • - human-computer interface and gesture recognition
  • - 3D reconstruction of static or time-varying scenes
  • - image multiplexing for stereo or structure light patterns
  • - 3D video and stereo projection (including auto-stereo)

The ProCams exhibit will take place on Sunday, June 18th at the Tisch School of the Arts, 721 Broadway (a few blocks from the Kimmel Center–site of ProCams and CVPR). Tisch ITP is a fascinating department exploring the ability of people to use media to connector to one another and the world. As such, the ProCams exhibits will be intermixed with the selected exhibits by ITP faculty and students. (Some of you will likely remember Daniel Rozin's Wooden Mirror from ACM SIGGRAPH's Emerging Technologies exhibit several years ago. It is prominently displayed in the ITP department lobby).

Exhibitors will be able to apply for limited grants to help defray related expenses. Awards will be based on needs and available funds.
